Walking with Poles GROUP

‘Pole Walking Workshops’ begin on Monday, July 7
This program runs 8 Mondays from July 7 to Aug 25, 2025

*Pole Walking Workshops are for participants aged 50+ who seek a safe, gentle ‘walking’ exercise program that uses 80% of your muscles! (walking uses only 50%).

  • Walking with POLES off-loads some of your weight which means less stress (& pain) for your joints: hips, knees, ankles, feet. With specific walking techniques you can ALSO increase your stride length, speed & calorie burning while also improving your ‘cardiovascular’ workout!
  • Includes: a guided warmup & balance exercises, expert training in various walking techniques using poles and more!
  • The different techniques & methods of walking that are best for you will be dependent upon your mobility abilities 
  • You will walk in small groups around Heritage Place Mall for 30 minutes
  • Return to the studio for a lovely stretch to improve flexibility & help prevent pain & stiffness later!

Pole Walking Workshops are NOT just for folks who have ‘walking poles,’ they are for anyone who wants to: try walking with POLES before purchasing & learn walking techniques for various mobility abilities! ($5 rental fee/hr if poles are required).  

Note: All participants are required to sign a ‘one-time’ WAIVER for insurance purposes, thank-you!

Walking with Poles GROUP 1

WEEKLY CLASS FORMAT:

  1. Please arrive at Studio 10-15 mins early, especially if you are renting a set of poles, as they must be adjusted to fit your height. Recommended to bring: small backpacks, fanny packs, or cross-body bags are the most comfortable to use while walking with poles!
  2. Warmup: gentle, light exercises to warm up our muscles & joints (very important!); learn & practise SAFE BALANCE exercises weekly; learn various walking techniques using POLES & which ones best suit YOUR mobility level; learn more about the multitude of benefits to WALKING WITH POLES!
  3. Public restrooms are right across the hallway from the Studio, please visit BEFORE class or BEFORE the walk around the Mall.
  4. 30 min Mall walk in pairs or groups for safety! Your belongings will be safe if left in the Studio.
  5. After the 30 min walk, we return to the studio for a full body, relaxing STRETCH of all the major muscle groups. Stretching AFTER exercise helps prevent pain & stiffness later!
  6. Payments accepted: E-transfer, cash or cheque.
