If you have diabetes, being active makes your body more sensitive to insulin (the hormone that allows cells in your body to use blood sugar for energy), which helps manage your diabetes. Physical activity also helps control blood sugar levels and lowers your risk of heart disease and nerve damage.
Exercise is an important part of any diabetes treatment plan
Exercise helps to promote weight loss, which is essential for managing the disease. Exercise also helps to reduce stress and improve overall health, both of which can be negatively impacted by diabetes. In addition, exercise has been shown to reduce the risk of developing diabetes-related complications, such as heart disease and stroke. For these reasons, it is important for people with diabetes to make exercise a regular part of their lives.
Diabetes is on the rise and has become an epidemic in North America. If you are diabetic or pre-diabetic, you should be aware that getting regular exercise (think daily) is crucial to managing your disease as well as prevention.
